Zapu leader Dumiso Dabengwa has urged President Mugabe to "at least" apologise to the victims and survivors of the 1980s Gukurahundi massacres to bring closure to the contentious issue.

Dabengwa said he personally deserved an apology from the veteran ruler.

"This should be followed by concrete and transparent measures to redress the impact of that repression on survivors and the immediate families of slain victims."
