About 10 companies have closed shop in Bulawayo since Monday (27 Aug) as the de-industrialisation of the city reaches crisis levels.
This is at a time when the govt is still dilly-dallying with releasing the DIMF funds set for struggling Bulawayo companies.
The government unveiled the US$40mill scheme last year to alleviate the plight of Bulawayo companies but very firms have benefited.
And this week, 10 more companies closed shop citing viability constraints, sending close to 10 000 into joblessness.
ZCTU's Bulawayo spokesperson, Percy Mcijo confirmed and laid the blame on government. He said govt is insincere on reviving Bulawayo.
The companies that have closed are Durawood, Spearhead, Santosha, Lancaster clothing, Harven, Belma, Archer and Security Mills.
Mcijo said the labour body is staging protests this week to force govt to urgently act to stop the continued closure of many companies.
Last year, about 80 companies closed, sending 20 000 workers into unemployment.
