A man who allegedly fatally shot his former girlfriend and seriously injured a policeman in a shooting incident before robbing a shop at gunpoint in Lupane on Monday appeared in court on Thursday.
Danis David Konson (60) of Parklands in Bulawayo, who was represented by his lawyer Robert Ndlovu was not asked to plead to murder, attempted murder and robbery charges when he appeared before Lupane magistrate Takudzwa Gwazemba.
The magistrate remanded him in custody to September 27 and advised him to apply to the High Court for bail. It is the state case that on Monday, Konson drove from Bulawayo to Lupane. On arrival he allegedly asked a Jotsholo police officer, Wisdom Matupire to accompany him to Mateteni Business Centre saying he wanted to conduct business there under police guard.
The court heard that on arrival at Mateteni, he allegedly shot his former girlfriend, Siphathisiwe Ncube, twice in the head using a Bruno pistol accusing her of having an affair with another man.
Ncube died on the spot.
Konson then allegedly turned his gun on the police officer and shot him once in the chest leaving him seriously injured.
The police officer was taken to a Bulawayo hospital where he is receiving treatment. After allegedly shooting the two, Konson is reported to have pounced on Ndaluzane Investment General dealer shop and reportedly threatened to shoot the shop attendant before robbing her of $300. A report was made to the police leading to his arrest and the recovery of the gun he allegedly used.
Sanders Sibanda is prosecuting the case.
