MDC T youths were yesterday twined in a stand off with gun wielding police officers after they threatened to unleash terror on officers who had gone arrest the former party's burial society treasurer.
The infighting within Makokoba MDC T burial society that has been going on for sometime yesterday turned gun blazing with police officers trying to mum the marauding youths.
Drama unfolded when the chairman of the burial society, Mr Jacob Manyanga went to Rose Camp police station and reported the society's former treasurer, Miss Margaret Sibindi for fraud.
Sibindi allegedly failed to account for $4000 at a time when she was asked to step down from the post and surrender the books to the chairman.
Sibindi has lost treasurer's post in the society's election which she disputed.
Manyanga reported Sibindi for fraud and she in turn hired a gang to counter the justice.
Manyanga reportedly left the station with two police officers who were assigned to arrest but they met a mob waiting to mete justice on them.
Bulawayo Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo confirmed the incident.
"I can confirm that police officers and MDC T burial society's chairman who had gone to arrest Sibindi were greeted by a mob of youths.
"Police officers coded others and they reacted swiftly to the situation and the resultant was the firing of rubber bullets to disperse the crowd.
"We managed to apprehend one rowdy gang member who was baying for chairman's blood," Insp Moyo said.
Bulawayo24.com has it on good authority that 15 gun wielding police officers came in a truck and they had to fire rubber bullets to mum the violent youths.
Insp Moyo said there were about 20 MDC T youths who were subsequently joined by other general party members to fight the police.
Insp Moyo warned members of the public to respect the authority of the police and to desist from obstructing the law enforcement agents.
"We will stop at nothing to arrest deviant elements in the society. We encourage people not to obstruct officer when they are working but rather to work with them for a crime free Zimbabwe," said Insp Moyo
