Durawall builders in Greenhill suburb of Bulawayo discovered a human skull, teeth and bones which are believed to have been buried 30 years ago. The builders revealed that they first came across a bottle which had liquid and some strange stuff underground.
"As we were digging a foundation for the durawall, we stumbled upon a bottle which had some African medicine. We just ignored it and threw it away. To my surprise, after digging deeper, I came across a skull and that is when I called my colleague to come and see what I had found," said the builder.
After taking a much closer look, they realised that it was not an animal skull but a human one.
"We put the skull aside and continued digging. We then discovered teeth and spine bones. This made it obvious that they were human remains. We informed the owner of the house and handed over the bones to her," said the builder.
The owner of the house refused to identify herself saying they were shocked to discover that there were human remains in their yard.
"We have been staying at this house for the past 19 years and since the time time we moved in, we have never changed the fence. These human bones were dug under the fence. According to a pathologist who saw the bones, he said they were more than 30 years old," said the woman.
They reported the matter to Hillside police station and police attended to the scene. Bulawayo metropolitan police spokesperson Inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo confirmed the incident.
"We received a report where builders who were digging for durawall pounced on human bones, teeth and a skull. The remains were taken to United Bulawayo Hospitals and investigations are underway," said Insp Moyo.
