222 kilometers of Harare-Beitbridge highway rehabilitation complete

The rehabilitation of the Harare-Beitbridge highway is on course, with more than 200km having been completed so far as contractors work flat out to deliver world class road infrastructure.
According to the latest update, Bitumen World has completed 54.5 kilometers, Fossil Contracting has covered 50.3 kilometers, Masimba and Tensor are at 40 kilometers, Exodus and Company have done 30 kilometers while Dor Inhouse has completed 7,2 kilometers to come up with a cumulative 222 kilometers which is now open to traffic.
"With the advent of Second Republic we are not just talking but there is action on the ground, in particular the Harare-Beitbridge road. This road is significant in terms of linking countries within the SADC region. I'm glad to say that beginning 2021 we were around 120km that were opened to traffic and as we speak we have opened 222km to traffic and what it means is that now the contractors we engaged are on time and in terms of scope of work, they are meticulous. We have resident engineers who do oversight work," the Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Honourable Felix Mhona said.
Government is confident that the 300 kilometer target set for December this year will be met.
He added: "Others might say the rains are coming, but we have to work, imagine those countries that are always raining. I would like to assure Zimbabweans, that this is the road we have been waiting for. Rehabilitation of Harare-Beitbridge in the last era has been a talk show. I'm glad to thank President Emmerson Mnangagwa. He is a man of few words, but when it comes to action, we are rehabilitating roads, constructing bridges, the main airport. As we then gravitate towards the end of 2021, we are aiming to do 300 kilometers – it is achievable using domestic resources."
