A Bulawayo cop will spend the next two years in jail for being drunk behind the steer wheel.
Evernice Nyika, an assistant inspector based at Saursetown Police Station will swap his charge office desk for a prison cell after he rammed into a police car and a privately owned bus.
Bulawayo Magistrate Thobekile Nkosana on Friday jailed the senior police officer for two years for drunken driving.
The magistrate slapped Nyika with another 3 months for negligent driving.
Allegations against Nyika are that on September 2 this year, he was driving a police Ford Ranger registration number ZRP057R along Frere Road in Saursetown suburb whilst under the influence of alcohol.
A speeding Nyika hit the right side of a bus parked on the road which had run out of fuel.
A police officer who arrived at the accident scene first found beer containers in the police Ford Ranger vehicle and an alcohol breath test confirmed Nyika was over the limit.
