A SECURITY guard appeared in court on Tuesday charged with having sex with a dog in broad daylight.

Fanuel Tiki, 49, of Hillside, was allegedly caught in the act by a colleague.

Tiki, who is employed by Fort Group Security Company, denies bestiality.

Taking the stand in his own defence, he said the main prosecution witness, Prince Moyo, had an intense disliking of him.

He claims Moyo had arrived late for work at a house on Arnold Way in Burnside, and had used the dog story to deflect disciplinary proceedings against him.

"There were six other people working at the premises, but Moyo interestingly chose not to raise the alarm so that they could witness what he had seen," Moyo told the court.

Earlier, the court heard from Moyo who told how as he arrived for work on November 21, he witnessed Tiki seated on a metal stool in the guardroom holding the bitch in front of him.

"When he saw me, he panicked, but could not let go of the dog. I could tell that his zip was open and he was being intimate with the dog. He later pushed it away and ordered it to go away," Moyo testified.

"I was shocked by what I had seen and just stood on the same spot for sometime before I proceeded to inform a workmate, Zondile Hove."

Hove, called to the stand by prosecutor Shepherd Nhamburo, confirmed Moyo had come to him with the claims and tried to persuade him to confront Tiki.

The two men had settled on reporting Tiki to their employer.

Hove told the court he had "always suspected there could have been something happening between Tiki and the female dog", claiming to have seen him in "suspicious scenarios with the pet".

Bulawayo magistrate Charity Maphosa remanded Tiki to Friday on free bail for the continuation of the trial.
