Taxi drivers nabbed for operating without licences

THREE pirate taxi drivers from Bulawayo that were operating along Bulawayo- Plumtree Road have been arrested for working without operators' licences.
The trio were convicted on their own plea of guilt to operating illegally when they appeared before Plumtree magistrate, Mr Livard Philemon.
Mose Musariyarwa (37), of House Number 1079 Old Luveve, was arrested on 19 January at the 99km-peg along Plumtree-Bulawayo Road. Traffic police discovered that he was driving a non-passenger service vehicle without a licence.
On the same day, Learnmore Mashana (22), of 57727 New Lobengula was driving a Mitsubishi Chariot Registration Number ABL 5982 when he was arrested at the 101 km-peg for the same offence.
Solomon Mjaravaza (33) of 6829 Pumula North was on the same day driving a Toyota Granvia registration ACP 3331 and had five passengers on board when he was arrested at the 99km-peg.
The trio was charged with contravening Section 7(1) (b) (i) of the Road Motor Transport Act chapter 13:15, which criminalises people who transport passengers without an operator's licence.
Musariyarwa and Mashana were each fined $200 (or three months imprisonment). Mjaravaza was fined $100 (or two months imprisonment).
Mr Paul Mpofu appeared for the State.
