ZAPU yet to elect presidential candidate
07 Feb 2013 at 06:42hrs | Views
ZAPU president Dumiso Dabengwa says his party is still to elect a presidential candidate for this year's watershed elections, arguing the party leader is not automatically the candidate.
"ZAPU has not yet decided on a candidate because ZAPU constitution separates a party president from government," he said.
"The leader of the party does not interfere with government issues; he consults," he added.
He, however, said if members feel a sitting party president is qualified to stand for national presidency then that particular individual has to step down from leading the party.
Despite the party's precarious financial position, Dabengwa is confident that ZAPU would not be deterred from participating in polls, adding members have since been tasked to source funds from well-wishers.
