A Bulawayo woman will live to be a good example to many that they should not break the biblical commandment 'Thou shall not steal' following an incident where a bag she had allegedly stolen stuck to her heard for a month and has been moving around carrying it since the day in question.
According to the city's only state run tabloid newspaper, B-Metro, the woman had stolen the bag from a man only identified as Maphosa sometime in January in Harare. It is reported that after stealing the bag, she failed to pen it and decided to carry it on her head as she proceeded to look for a private place, but it was a sad story for her as the bag had 'miraculously' stuck to her head.
The woman failed to locate the bag's owner until Wednesday (13 February) when she bumped into its owner in Bulawayo near Renkini Long Distance Bus Terminus. Passersby were treated to a free live movie as the owner of the bag, Maphosa, approached the woman asking for his bag.
"There was a misunderstanding between the two and that attracted our attention and we moved close as we had seen the woman moving up and down earlier. Maphosa told us his story saying the bag was his and the woman had stolen it from him in Harare, but the woman refuted saying the bag was hers. When she was ordered to put it down, that's when she broke down and started narrating her ordeal saying the bag was stuck on her head," said a vendor identified as Moyo.
Maphosa told people that he had approached a traditional healer in Chipinge and he had some concoctions which he was supposed to pour on the woman's head for her to be able to take off the bag.
"The woman was ordered to lie on the street and Maphosa poured water and amazingly the bag fell down. After the incident, the woman opened the bag and he said everything was still intact," said Moyo the vendor.
When our news crew got to the scene, people who had seen all the drama were still dumbfounded. The woman at the centre of the spectacle looked disturbed and the man demanded that she pays him with three cows and two goats if she wanted him to take her to the traditional healer who could set her free for good.
The woman was saved by police from members of the public who wanted to mete instant justice on her. She was whisked to Mzilikazi Police Station along with 'powerful' Maphosa.
