A WOMAN from Northend in Bulawayo landed herself in trouble after she used a fake Ordinary Level certificate to get a job with a local retail outlet early this year.

Karaleen Anne Brittan (27) pleaded guilty to a fraud charge when she appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Tawanda Muchemwa last Thursday.

The magistrate convicted and sentenced her to a 10-month prison term which was, however, wholly suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.

It was the State case that Brittan was recently employed by OK Mart as a contract worker after she presented a fake "O" Level certificate and prepared a curriculum vitae based on the fake document to get the job at the supermarket.

The fake certificate showed that she had passed three subjects.

Brittan, who has never sat for the examinations, forged the certificate purporting that she wrote her "O" Levels at Eveline High School in Bulawayo in November 1999 and passed three subjects.

The offence came to light when the certificate was sent to the Zimbabwe School Examination Council for authentication and it was established that it was fake.
