Violence at MDC-T Bulawayo elections

Sporadic incidents of violence broke out at the MDC-T provincial elections centre in Bulawayo where youths aligned to feuding camps have been engaged in running battles.
The elections that are being held at the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions offices along George Silundika Street and 13th Avenue have seen a number of youths being injured after being assaulted by fellow party members.
Police had to be called in to quell the violence.
Fighting broke out when the MDC-T's electoral college was inside the ZCTU offices where they are holding elections.
It appears violence was ignited by reports that Mr Gordon Moyo had won the Bulawayo Provincial Chairmanship post beating Matson Hlalo.
Mr Moyo is the new MDC-T chairman for Bulawayo Province while Ms Dorcas Sibanda won the deputy chairperson's post.
It is understood that the two factions aligned to Hlalo and Moyo have always been at loggerheads as they are battling for control of the party in Bulawayo. Political analyst, Dr Maxwell Hove said this violence has exposed the party, which always play the blame game.
"This is a clear testimony that MDC-T is a violent party. This idea of MDC-T leader, Morgan Tsvangirai going on a diplomatic offensive around SADC, misleading the region's leaders that the Zanu-PF party is the one that is perpetrating violence, is a shame as this violence has exposed the so called champions of democracy, that is the MDC-T, as a violent party that always lay the blame on Zanu-PF," Dr Hove said.
Meanwhile, the elections were however not completed as the party had booked the venue up to 17.00hrs but by 17.30hrs, they still had not finished and were advised to stop the process, which is now set to continue tomorrow. MDC-T is holding its provincial elections ahead of the party'snational congress set to begin at the end of the month.
