THE two Zanu-PF members, who are being accused of undermining police authority and trying to defeat or obstruct the course of justice following the disruption of the party's Provincial Coordinating Committee meeting last week, were yesterday further remanded in custody.

Magura Charumbira (30), of Number 1 Bowood Flat, Robert Mugabe Way and 3rd Avenue and Bornface Mutsuri (32), of B2 Njube will next appear in court on 9 April for start of trial.

This was after their lawyer Mr Godfrey Nyoni, of Moyo and Nyoni Legal Practitioners did not attend court yesterday.

Charumbira and Mutsuri are in custody after being denied bail by Bulawayo magistrate Mr Chrispen James Mberewere.

The two are members of the Zanu-PF Youth League and allegedly proceeded to Bulawayo Central Police Station where they allegedly confronted police officers following the arrest of Ashley Shorai Mashungu (31), who is facing a charge of public violence.

Charumbira and Mutsuri had initially been arrested for public violence together with other party members, Joyce Noni Ndlovu (58), Caalaghan Mutendereki (37), Noah Gatsi (57), Mashungu and Robert Ncube (58).

Charges of public violence against Ndlovu, Mutendereki, Charumbira and Mutsuri were dropped before going to court last week but Charumbira and Mutsuri were re-arrested on allegations of undermining police authority and trying to defeat the course of justice.

The State would want to prove that on the day in question, as police were escorting some of the arrested party cadres to the detention room, Charumbira and Mutsuri allegedly confronted Inspector Muzombi and Sergeant Burombo and blocked them.

Charumbira allegedly started shouting at the police officers saying: "Uri ani iwe, munhu uyu haana kwaarikuenda munosevenza sei? Murimapenzi mavakupindira zvematongerwo enyika here? Muchaona. Meaning: Who are you, this person is not going anywhere. How are you working? You are stupid, are you involving yourselves in politics of the country? You will get yourselves into trouble."

Mutsuri allegedly uttered similar words directed at the police.

Meanwhile, the trial of Gatsi, Mashungu and Ncube who are facing charges of public violence, is expected to start today.

The three are also in custody after being denied bail last week.
