THE Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo National Foundation will today launch its programmes for this year in a bid to perpetuate and preserve the legacy of the late Vice President Dr Joshua Nkomo.
The launch, which is targeting school children, teachers and academics, will be held at Bulawayo Amphitheatre.
In a statement yesterday, the foundation's acting chief executive officer, Mr Jabulani Hadebe, said the aim was to popularise the projects of the foundation, which include the Joshua Nkomo Museum, Umdala Wethu Music Festival, Joshua Nkomo Chess Challenge, Joshua Nkomo Golf Classic and the Charity Soccer Cup.
"The foundation is inviting heads of schools, teachers to the launch of the Joshua Nkomo National Foundation programmes for 2013. As you are aware, the foundation is a registered non-governmental organisation, which is run by a full board of trustees and a management committee," said Mr Hadebe.
He said the launch and rebranding of the foundation was to preserve the rich legacy of the "man of the people".
"Dr Nkomo is one indisputable luminary and veteran nationalist of Zimbabwe's modern history who invested his entire life to the service of his people and lived to see his political vision and leadership give birth to modern Zimbabwe.
"For the reasons of the title, Father Zimbabwe, has grown around his legacy like a halo of light," said Mr Hadebe.
He said they expected close to a thousand people at the launch and Zanu-PF National chairman Cde Simon Khaya Moyo, will be the guest speaker.
