A 54-YEAR-OLD woman from Sizinda area in Jambezi under Chief Mvutu was allegedly raped twice by a 20-year-old man who had followed her for a kilometre while walking home at about 9.30pm.
Matabeleland North provincial police spokesperson Inspector Billie Dube confirmed the incident.
He said the woman was raped by David Moyo who is now on the run and the incident happened on 22 March.
He said on the day in question the woman was walking home alone at about 9.30pm coming from her cousin's homestead when the accused started following her. Insp Dube said after walking for about a kilometre, Moyo asked the woman if they could go into the bush to be intimate but she turned him down.
"Moyo then assaulted the woman with fists and dragged her into the bush where he raped her once," he said.
Insp Dube said Moyo hit the woman with a stone on the face and forced her to sleep next to him in the bush.
"Moyo woke up and raped her again before falling asleep. Around 3am the woman ran away after noticing that he was now fast asleep," he said.
Insp Dube said she ran home where she told her husband about the alleged rape.
"The woman and her husband went and reported the matter at Victoria Falls Police Station and the police attended the scene. The accused is still at large," he said.
Insp Dube said the woman was taken to Victoria Falls District Hospital where she is admitted.
He urged women to avoid travelling alone at night or using foot paths as they might fall prey to rapists.
