The government is looking for $5,4 million to complete the upgrade of Bulawayo's Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport, Secretary for Transport, Communications and Infrastructure Development, Munesushe Munodawafa has said.
Munodawafa told delegates to the Zimbabwe annual investment conference being held in Boksburg South Africa that the airport was 98% complete.
"The Bulawayo airport has not been completed…the current state is not desirable," he told delegates to the meeting that ended Thursday.
"The runway is fine, what is not well, which is a disservice, is the terminal building. It's now 98 percent complete."
"The check in system has not yet been installed. Civil Aviation is battling with cashflow and requires $5,4 million. That project has taken a long time," he added.
He said it had taken 10 years to complete the upgrade of the airport because of changes in civil aviation with the check in process changed a number of times to comply with certain standards.
The airport, which had been scheduled to be finalised last December, was named after the late Vice President Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo.
The airport, now boasts of a CCTV, access control, a fire alarm system and a state-of-the-art telephone system that meets international standards.
