THE Bulawayo City Council (BCC) is planning to renovate four of its clinics in the high-density suburbs which have reached an advanced stage of dilapidation and are no longer safe to use as health institutions.
According to the latest council minutes, the local authority has already drawn up plans for the renovation of Njube, Luveve, Mzilikazi and Tshabalala clinics.
The decision was made after council noted the four clinics were no longer safe for use as health institutions.
"The Health Services director reported on March 6 that the department sought renovations of clinics that included Njube, Luveve, Mzilikazi and Tshabalala and appropriate plans were drawn by the department of Housing and Community Services and circulated to relevant departments accordingly," council said.
The plans, according to the council, had been approved and were ready to be forwarded to the donor. The International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease, based in Harare, had indicated to the department that it could provide funds to renovate the clinics. But there was no indication how much the renovations would cost.
