A Bulawayo man has appeared in court facing charges of raping his biological daughter for close to seven years.
The man (61), whose name cannot be published to protect the girl, allegedly claimed that an inyanga had advised him to have sex with "his favourite daughter" so that he becomes rich.
The girl is 17 and is doing Form Four at a private college in the city centre.
She was 10 years old when her father started allegedly sexually abusing her in 2006.
The man indicated that he would plead guilty to rape when he appeared before Western Commonage Courts Mr Themba Chimiso on Tuesday.
He was remanded in custody to today for plea recording.
For the State Ms Fiona Ncube told the court that the girl's mother died when she was young and she stays with a stepmother, who is reportedly mentally disturbed.
It is alleged that the man has been sexually abusing the girl until last week, when she eloped with her boyfriend as a way of running away from her father's advances.
It emerged in court that the girl had been recording events of her abuse in a book which later leaked to her friends at her former school in one of the western suburbs.
To cover his back, the father transferred his daughter from the school to a private college in the city centre.
The court was told that when the girl fled to her boyfriend's place of residence, the man followed her in an attempt to take her back home.
He allegedly started accusing his daughter's boyfriend of raping her.
The girl allegedly revealed to her boyfriend that her father had been sexually abusing her, adding that he would, each time threaten her with death if she told anyone about the issue.
