A GOVERNMENT-RUN secondary school is set to be constructed in Pumula South high density suburb in Bulawayo as part of moves to decongest public schools in the city.
Presently, Pumula South does not have a public secondary school.
According to the latest council minutes, the local authority has accented to an application from the Education, Sport, Arts and Culture ministry to construct a government-run secondary school in the suburb.
"The director of engineering services reported (March 19) to the town lands and planning department that an application had been received from the provincial education director of Bulawayo Province to establish a secondary school on Stand No 12781 Pumula South.
"The application had been circulated to other municipal departments and other service organisations and there were no adverse comments received," council minutes of the finance and development committee reveal. The stand had initially been earmarked for the construction of a primary school.
However, councillors agreed to convert the site to a secondary school since Pumula South does not have a government-run school, the minutes add.
"Stand No 12781 Pumula South had been planned as a primary school site, but due to the need for a public secondary school in Pumula South and the size of the stand, it has been proposed that Stand No 12781 Pumula South be converted to a secondary school," added the report "Within Pumula South there were adequate primary school sites to cater for the area and there would be no objections to the conversion of the site to a secondary school."
