President Robert Mugabe has castigated the people of Matabeleland who did not vote for Zanu-PF saying they rejected Zanu-PF members like the late John Nkomo because they (people) voted for food.
Speaking at Vice President Landa John Nkomo's memorial service in Bulawayo this Sunday, Mugabe said some people are easily swayed by donors and other western organisations to betray their liberators for food.
"Continue to support those who brought this independence, people like John, and don't follow the message of all those non-governmental organisations, who come to your areas giving you food.
"For some of you, it doesn't matter there is Ian Smith or the British in government, what you think of is food. You rejected John Nkomo and all of us in the previous elections, you voted for food, but what about your future, what about your freedom?" said Mugabe.
Mugabe said Zimbabweans should cherish the work by people like Nkomo who brought independence and unity to Zimbabwe.
