THE Bulawayo City Council will, at the end of the month, host an interdenominational prayer meeting for rain, in an indication that the water crisis has reached alarming levels.

In a statement yesterday, council senior public relations officer Nesisa Mpofu said the city will hold a prayer for rain and thanksgiving at the Large City Hall on June 26 at 12.30pm to 14.30pm.

"Stakeholders and other members of the society in the city of Bulawayo are kindly invited to attend the prayer and thanksgiving, as we pray for various issues and also give thanks to the Lord for the gift of life," she said.

Mpofu also said during this month, the prayers will encompass themes that include prayer for the elections, peace, progress, prayer for positioning of the city of Bulawayo for development and growth, prayer for the youth, prayer for rains and a thanksgiving prayer.

"As leading members of the Christian community, you are requested to take part in the service, which will include prayers, singing and preaching," she said.

"Churches are also kindly requested to bring along their choirs to sing at the meetings. We look forward to a successful prayer day."

Bulawayo could be facing a prolonged critical water crisis this year, as already one dam has been decommissioned while another one is expected to be cut off next month.
