Notorious robber axes petrol attendant before robbing him

A notorious robber was yesterday arraigned before the courts for allegedly axing a petrol attendant before robbing him of R100, US$35 and groceries as he lay unconsciously on the ground.
Artwell Moyo, 31, also allegedly waylaid his neighbour in a bushy pathway and robbed him of a cellphone.
Moyo of Old Luveve in Bulawayo was not asked to plead to two counts of attempted murder and one count of robbery when he appeared before West Commonage magistrate, Mr Maphios Moyo.
He was remanded in custody to 25 June.
The prosecutor, Mr Mugaro Mageza, said between 23 May and 1 June, Moyo waylaid the complainants along a bushy pathway and rob them of cellphones, groceries and money.
On 23 May, Mr Giveus Ncube who was in the company of his sister disembarked from a kombi in Luveve.
The court was told that while the two were walking home using a footpath, Moyo emerged from the bush wielding an axe.
He allegedly struck Ncube twice on the head before robbing him of four cellphones and $50.
On 1 June, Moyo waylaid his neighbour, Mr Mukuwapasi Matirasa in a bush between Emakhandeni and Luveve.
He robbed him of a cellphone after threatening to strike him with an axe.
Moyo later pounced on Mr Lovely Mpofu, a petrol attendant while he was coming from work.
The court was told that Moyo approached Mr Mpofu from behind and allegedly struck him twice on the head.
He searched him as he lay unconscious on the ground and took his cellphone, US$35, R100 and groceries before he fled.
Mr Mpofu was spotted by police officers who were on patrol and they took him to hospital.
Acting on a tip-off, detectives arrested Moyo in Makokoba and he was positively identified by the three complainants.
Police only recovered a cellphone belonging to one of the complainants.
