A 28-year-old Bulawayo Polytechnic student was this week fined US$50 by a local court after pleading guilty to possession of pornographic material.
Magistrate Marylin Mutshina warned Mduduzi Hlongwane of Nketa 6 that he would be locked up for 30 days if he failed to pay the fine by the end of the month.
The final year library and information science had pleaded guilty to contravening sections of the Censorship and Entertainment Act.
He however implored the magistrate not to send him to jail saying he was the sole bread-winner for his family.
Prosecutor Trust Muduma told the court that on May 20 this year, Hlongwane downloaded pornographic videos on a library computer and saved the material on his mobile phone.
He then started playing them back some of the videos in full view of other students in the library.
The illicit mini cinema session ended when he was discovered by the librarian who took him to the college principal where the case was reported to the police.
