A 44-year-old teacher at Hamilton High School in Bulawayo has been arrested for allegedly raping a Form Two girl after promising to teach her extra lessons.

The teacher, Nicholas Moyo from Thorngrove who was teaching Technical Graphics at the school, has appeared in court facing a charge of rape.

He was not formally charged and was remanded in custody to 18 July by Bulawayo magistrate Mr Witness Takundwa Mtetwa.

The prosecutor, Mr Malvin Nzombe, told the court that sometime in June this year, Moyo invited the girl, a pupil at the school whose name is being withheld for legal reasons to his office under the pretext that he wanted to teach her extra lessons.

When the girl reported to his office he allegedly asked her to go to the storeroom to collect bond paper, which he claimed was going to be used during the lesson.

The court was told that Moyo then followed the complainant to the storeroom.

While in the storeroom, Moyo is alleged to have fondled the girl's breasts and private parts.

After fondling the complainant he went on to pull down her skirt and undergarment before raping her once using protection, the court was told.

After the sexual abuse the girl did not report to anyone until the matter was discovered on 21 June.

On the day in question it is alleged that the complainant collapsed while at school and was taken to the United Bulawayo Hospitals where she revealed to the doctor who examined her that she was sexually abused by her teacher.

The matter was reported to the police leading to the arrest of Moyo.
