In bid to win Bulawayo vote in the presidential election next week, the 89-year-old Zanu-PF leader Robert Mugabe today urged residents whose houses were "corruptly taken by councils" to report the matter to the relevant authorities so that those involved face the full wrath of the law.

Addressing Zanu-PF supporters at White City stadium in Bulawayo during a rally on Saturday, Mugabe said "they (city council) say every month you have to pay rates and rents and when you got in debts of about five months, they said your house should be attached and sold. They are the ones who took the houses. We didn't know that. We said to Minister Chombo, the debts must be cancelled. The houses that have been wrongly taken by them, please report and we will look into the issue," said Mugabe.

Mugabe also said: "I understand in Bulawayo you are getting water three times a week. Why? So how do you bath? This is a situation we must look at. The wells we dug in Nyamayendlovu, some went into disuse. We should look at them and revive them. At Mtshabezi dam there is a pipeline coming here, we will commission it soon. We will do our best in regard to that one, it's an urgent matter. There should be adequate water in Bulawayo."

Mugabe also said "it is a great offence, an act of inhumanity to throw people out of their homes and expect them to secure somewhere, somehow. What cruelty?"
