Malayitsha trial date set for 5 September

THE trial date for the cross-border transporter from Bulawayo, who allegedly kidnapped a fellow malayitsha and severely assaulted him, has been set for 5 September.
Xolani Mathe (34), of 2516 Cowdray Park, was accusing Mr Mandisi Nyakwangwa from the same suburb of having an affair with his wife.
Mathe was shot by police as he attempted to flee while resisting arrest at his homestead in Insuza, Matabeleland North, in February.
He is facing one count of kidnapping and one of unlawful detention.
Mathe who was admitted to United Bulawayo Hospitals after the shooting incident, went on to assault Mr Nyakwangwa leaving him for dead after being discharged from hospital thereby violating his bail conditions.
He had been released on $300 bail.
Bulawayo regional magistrate Mr Crispen Mberewere last Friday fined him $20 or 10 days in prison for defaulting coming to court.
Allegations against Mathe are that on 29 January this year, he proceeded to Mr Nyakwangwa's house at Number 203 Cowdray Park driving a Toyota Hilux.
He was in the company of three alleged accomplices who are still at large. While at the house, Mathe and his accomplices forcibly opened the gate and allegedly forced Mr Nyakwangwa out of the house and shoved him into their vehicle.
The court was told that Mr Nyakwangwa's sister, Jacqueline, witnessed the incident and alerted the police.
Using the information, detectives tracked the vehicle.
Mathe drove to his rural home in Insuza Village 4 where he later severely assaulted Nyakwangwa with a hose pipe, sticks and a pick handle.
The court heard that the complainants' legs and hands were tied as he was being assaulted by Mathe.
The detectives found the vehicle parked outside the homestead with the complainant's hands and legs tied.
Mr Nyakwangwa sustained injuries all over the body following the assault.
The weapons used to assault the complainant were recovered and he was referred to hospital for treatment.
It also emerged that Mathe and Mr Nyakwangwa had a long standing dispute.
Mathe in fact has a pending case of malicious damage to property at the Bulawayo magistrates' court after he allegedly destroyed Nyakwangwa's property last year.
