Tsvangirai finally speaks on VP post 'offer'

MDC leader, Morgan Tsvangirai says he has not been offered any post by President Mugabe.

"I am aware of reports circulating that I have been offered a post as Vice President in a new cabinet. Those reports are false. The fact is I am not talking to anyone about the possibility of joining a government which the majority of Zimbabweans consider as illegitimate," he said in a statement.

Tsvangirai in Bulawayo today told his supporters that their sacrifices to the MDC cause would not be in vain.

"If Mugabe won why is he insulting me? If you won and you are a president do what you have to do. Mugabe cannot deliver on the promises that he made for people in Matebeleland. He knows he will fail to revive the industries that is why he has abandoned Bulawayo and Harare,  Tsvangirai said.

Tsvangirai said the  MDC is at its strongest point across the length and breath of this country. He said the party continues to represent the expectations of the people of Zimbabwe.

"Mugabe legitimacy will not be endorsed by me and the MDC until a new election is carried out. It is not about me getting something from Mugabe it is about democratization of the country. The only thing is to remain committed to bring democracy to this country. We must have discipline. From now on this party will be as disciplined as an army that will succeed. As long as I am alive as long as I lead the movement change will come to this country. Mugabe is reversing hope in this country by nationalising companies which are non-existent," Tsvangirai said.

"Mugabe can rig election but cannot win the legitimacy of the people. We did not lose this election. Zanu PF is not victorious. The MDC is different from Zanu because we are a value based party while Zanu PF is a power based party. They are not interested in uniting the people. After stealing the peoples mandate what next for Zimbabwe. Ours is a dream deferred, " Tsvangirai said.

Tsvangirai said going forward the programme of action is that the MDC has been reduced to  zones of autonomy and therefore the party can not afford to put people in positions of local councils who are not fit for those positions. He said the party hence forth will steer the direction of council and prove to all and sundry that they are MDC councils.

"We want the best of everything. The programme of local authorities will come from the party. We have to make sure we become the party of excellence in local authorities. While some people are pursuing divisive policies we are on development. We wish Zanu PF good luck. The movement will not die until we have crossed the red sea. We are on the right side of history but no one will stop us. It might take time but we will have the last laugh," Tsvangirai said.

Tsvangirai said while Mugabe had the audacity in broad daylight to steal the peoples vote through the militarised operation in Bulawayo he faced heavy resistance owing to the people's resolve to usher in a new democratic dispensation.

"I knew that Mugabe wants a peaceful but rigged outcome. For all along he thought he could not go and face the people again when they said no in 2008. Mugabe stole the vote two years ago. The whole election fraud had been laid out two years ago. The nationalists lost power to the military and it is the military which managed this whole operation."

Tsvangirai urged people to remain calm as the Zanu PF is fully aware that they do not have the people's mandate. He said the democratisation process has been reversed by the subversion of the people's wish and therefore Robert Mugabe should stop insulting him and concentrate on the national mandate which he promised.
