NEWLY elected Bulawayo Mayor, Ward 3's Councillor Martin K Moyo has pledged to prioritise service delivery in the city.
In a brief acceptance speech in the council chambers this morning, the Mayor pledged to prioritise the provision of water and other aspects of service delivery in the city.
"We have to appreciate that we are waking up from a huge catastrophe, a collapse. Our roads are broken, our public places are not properly lit and we have problems providing water. so many other social services need to be attended to. So I pledge before you today that this council will do its utmost to deliver," said Clr Moyo.
He said Bulawayo preceding councils had left behind a legacy of Bulawayo as the best run city in the country, and the present council had to live up to that reputation. "I am confident that with this team of councillors, we will perpetuate that legacy and continue to perform in excellency," said Clr Moyo.
"The Press is a vital development partner in the city. I wish to work in a relationship of mutual trust and respect with the media. I will not shut my door to journalists seeking genuine comment on pertinent issues," he said.
The deputy Mayor, Clr Gift Banda , said he was humbled by the confidence of the councillors who voted for him.
"We have got a vision, which we will follow to the letter, with his worship (Clr Moyo)," said Clr Banda.
Clr Moyo is taking over the Mayoral reins from Mr Thaba Moyo, while Clr Banda has replaced Mr Amen Mpofu.
