POLICE have arrested a 33-year-old man for robbing and raping a number of female National University of Science and Technology students.

The man, Brighton Nkomo has since appeared before Bulawayo magistrate, Gladmore Mushove on charges of robbery and rape, Radio Dialogue reported.

Nkomo was remanded in custody to September 27.

Prosecutor Concilia Ncube told the court that in December last year, Nkomo allegedly followed a female student.

When they got to a secluded spot, he grabbed her by the neck and dragged her into the bush before stuffing her mouth with a woollen hat.

Ncube said the man then demanded that she hands over her bag and she refused.

As a way of making her submit, he hit her with a stone on the chest.

He then searched her and took from her a Nokia C2 cellphone and $2 cash. The court was told that Nkomo then went on to rape the woman once and disappeared into the bush.

The student went on to make a report with the institution's security guards and a report was also made to the police.

In April this year, an axe wielding Nkomo allegedly robbed and raped another student near a bush between Nust and Killarney.

Sometime in July, the man reportedly also raped another student.

He however, ran out of luck on Wednesday last week after one of his victims spotted him in a  kombi and alerted others.
