THE woman who allegedly pummeled and pushed a policeman out of a speeding commuter omnibus which had been spotted loading passengers at an illegal pick-up point in Bulawayo has appeared in court facing a charge of attempted murder.
Natasha Mutete (21) of 42067/4 New Vundu Flats in Makokoba allegedly hit Constable Silent Zisheche (28) with an unknown object on the hand leading to him falling off the speeding kombi as she wanted to stop him from arresting her colleagues, the driver and tout who are still at large.
Cst Zisheche reportedly suffered serious injuries and was admitted to hospital where he was treated and discharged. Mutete was not asked to plead to attempted murder when she appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Ms Gladmore Mushove yesterday.
She was remanded in custody to 26 September and the magistrate advised her to apply to the High Court for bail.
The State would seek to prove that on Monday last week, Cst Zisheche and other policeman were on duty patrolling in the city centre when they spotted the kombi loading passengers at an undesignated point at the corner of Lobengula Street and 6th Avenue.
Cst Zisheche, who was in uniform, boarded the kombi that had a driver, tout, Mutete and another person at about 3pm and instructed the driver to drive to Drill Hall as he was under arrest.
It is alleged that the driver sped off and the other two started assaulting and pushing Cst Zisheche but he held on to the edge of seat. The court was told that Mutete allegedly hit the policeman's hand with an unknown object so that he could let go of the vehicle and he fell off.
It is alleged that Cst Zisheche rolled on the ground several times and he was dragged by the kombi for some distance while the driver sped off. A report was made to the police and Cst Zisheche managed to positively identify Mutete leading to her arrest. Ms Concilia Ncube appeared for the State.
