Nkulumane man axed thrice, robbed
A 25-year-old man from Bulawayo's Nkulumane 12 is lucky to be alive after being struck thrice with an axe on the head by unknown assailants who later robbed him of R16.
Mr Knowledge Ndadzipaya, said he was attacked on his way home from Nkulumane Complex.
"I was returning home from Nkulumane Complex at about 6pm and was passing through a bushy area between the complex and a new area under construction and met two men who were coming from the opposite direction," said Mr Ndadzipaya.
"One of them suddenly drew an axe and struck me on the head three times and I fell down and lost consciousness. When I regained consciousness I found that my wallet that contained R16 was gone."
A brother to the victim who preferred anonymity said the area had become dangerous to people who use it.
"The area has become dangerous because of robbers who waylay unsuspecting residents who walk through the area," said the brother.
"I appeal to the police to intensify patrols in this area because many people have become victims of robberies in this area."
Contacted for comment Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo said they did not have such a report.
"We do not have such a report but we advise that person to come and make a formal report at the police station," said Insp Moyo.
"We understand the concerns of the brother and we have deployed foot, cycle and motorised patrols in such secluded places in a bid to curb such criminal activity."
