THE security guard who was shot dead on Tuesday evening by armed robbers in Bulawayo's Iminyela suburb was a former policeman.
Philimon Mudenda (35) left the Zimbabwe Republic Police three years ago and is survived by five children, the youngest being three months old.
In an interview yesterday, Mudenda's uncle, Mr Anderson Mutale, described his nephew as a dedicated man who worked hard to fend for his family.
"We were saddened by the loss of Philimon who was my nephew. He left the police force three years ago and later joined the security company he was working for. He is survived by five children, three boys and two girls and the youngest is a girl aged three months," said Mr Mutale.
He said the family was still working on burial arrangements and were set to leave for Binga yesterday evening.
"We are going to Binga, Lubu area, where Philimon is going to be buried. The security company has promised to provide us with a coffin, transport and groceries. We are hopeful that everything will go smoothly," said Mr Mutale.
Mudenda was shot in the chest at around 8pm on Tuesday at Cover Supermarket after reportedly shooting one of the three robbers on the leg.
Efforts to get comments from the Criminal Investigation Department were fruitless.
