A BULAWAYO pair appeared in court on Saturday for hitting a relative with a brick on the back of the head during a beer drink four months ago leading to his eventual death last week.
Thelma Lubimbi and Elijah Dliwayo were not formally charged for murder when they appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Victor Mpofu and were remanded in custody to November 4. They were also advised to apply to the High Court for bail.
Prosecutor Caroline Matanga told the court that sometime in July, Lubimbi and Dliwayo, including the deceased Mxolisi Lubimbi, were drinking beer at Happy Valley tavern in Nguboyenja.
A misunderstanding arose in the late hours of the night and Thelma and Dliwayo assaulted Mxolisi.
During the course of the fight, Thelma picked up a brick and hit Mxolisi once on the back of the head and he sustained serious injuries.
He was rushed to hospital where he was treated and discharged.
However, the injury kept recurring until his death last week, leading to the arrest of the two.
