A Muller Brothers security guard appeared in court yesterday facing charges of stealing 600kg of chicken worth $2 100 from the company.
Watson Dube (26) pleaded guilty to six counts of theft and was remanded in custody for sentence today by regional magistrate Merylene Mutshina.
Charges against Dube are that on November 4 between 7pm and 6am, he together with Andrew Jazen, who was also a security guard at the same company, connived and stole 160kg of chicken meat.
The two used a pliers and a shifting spanner to unscrew the nuts and bolts of the storeroom door.
The following day, the company director Fedrick Christian Muller discovered that there had been some a looting, but did nothing about it.
At around 10pm on the same day, Dube and Jazen again proceeded to the storeroom and stole 200kg bags of chicken which they took to town using a hired taxi.
On November 7, Muller discovered that there was an increasing theft of chickens and installed a camera in the storeroom without the two guards' knowledge.
Dube and Jazen went to the storeroom and stole 240kg of chicken, but this time they were captured on camera.
Muller filed a police report against the two, leading to Dube's arrest on November 15. Jazen fled and is still on the run. In his defence, Dube said he stole the chickens because he wanted to look after his ill grandmother who was always being hospitalised.
