A BULAWAYO man beat his four-year-old daughter with an electric cord because she could not count the number of drawers in the family's lounge.

The man (29) of Richmond suburb was arrested for assaulting his daughter for also failing to count from one up to five.

Yesterday, he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Ms Gladmore Mushove charged with contravening a section of the Child Protection and Adoption Act.

He was remanded in custody to 6 December.

The State will seek to prove that on 19 November at about 8pm the man asked his daughter to count from one up to five and she failed.

He went on to assault her on her left palm five times.

The court also heard that on 20 November at around 8am, the accused asked the complainant to count the number of drawers in the cupboard and she failed.

He went on to assault her several times on her back with an electric cord and she sustained a swollen right eye and back. The complainant's mother made a report to the police leading to the man's arrest.
