Bulawayo City Council has today announced that it will hold a memorial service for later former South Africa's president, Nelson Mandela on Saturday.
The service will be conducted at the Bulawayo Amphitheatre.
Reads a statement from BCC mayor, Martin Moyo :
"I am glad to inform you that Bulawayo City Council has responded positively to the citizens' desire to hold a memorial service for the late former President Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela. After thorough consultations with stakeholders, the Council decided to hold the memorial church service on Saturday, 14 December 2013 at the Bulawayo Amphitheatre. The Bulawayo community is therefore cordially invited and kindly advised that the service commences at 9.30am.
"May I thank all the churches and civic organizations that have worked in various ways towards the holding of the memorial service. May I also thank in advance all those who will contribute towards this very important occasion. Let me request the media to continue with their good work of publicizing this event and I thank them for a work well done so far. Please keep up the progressive work.
"Earlier arrangements by some churches for a prayer this afternoon, here at the Small City Hall, have therefore been postponed in the light of this development. Some members of the public might have not received that information. On behalf of the organizers of that event, may I express our regret for the inconvenience. Please do not tire, let's all meet on Saturday 14 December.
"Residents are advised that the dress code is formal black and white".
