A Bulawayo man, who was on Tuesday sentenced to 210 hours of community service for brutally assaulting his jealous ex-wife, has been granted an interim protection order against the woman.
Lindani Dube, 35, applied for a protection order against his ex-wife, Eunice Masuku, 29, whom he accused of being violent and harassing his pregnant fiancée on several occasions.
Western Commonage magistrate Themba Chimiso granted Dube an interim protection order pending a return date of December 19.
In his affidavit, Dube said: "I need protection against my ex-wife Eunice Masuku. We broke up in January 2012 and I have moved on with my life but she keeps pestering me. Masuku is always stalking me and she is also in the habit of phoning my fiancée verbally harassing her.
"Recently, I was walking with my fiancée who is nine months pregnant and Masuku provoked her and I reacted badly and ended up in court."
Dube said his ex-wife was not happy that he was now dating another woman.
"Masuku is actually angry because I have moved on and she will do anything to pull me down. I am even afraid that she might harm my unborn baby and I therefore need an urgent protection order," he said.
Masuku sustained a deep cut on the head and facial bruises after a thorough beating from her estranged husband who took his girlfriend's side in a catfight between the two love rivals.
Masuku had to be rushed to hospital after Dube descended on her with a flurry of punches to the face before striking her with a stone on the head.
Masuku had pushed Dube's pregnant girlfriend, who was not named, to the ground after she came across the two lovebirds walking hand-in-hand.
The two lovers were walking from Nketa 9 to Sizinda suburb.
Masuku got angry and in a fit of jealousy, confronted her rival and pushed her to the ground accusing her of "snatching" her man.
Dube was convicted on his own plea of guilty to charges of physical abuse and sentenced to 10 months in jail, of which two months were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.
Two months were further suspended on condition that Dube reimburses Masuku $80, the money she used to pay her medical bill.
The remaining six months were suspended on condition that he performs 210 hours of community service.
