PROMINENT Bulawayo businessman and socialite Nhamo Rusamo has died. He was 47.
Rusamo died on Friday morning at Mpilo Central Hospital after succumbing to injuries he sustained when he was involved in an accident more than two months ago.
Rusamo, a former junior football administrator, once owned a soccer team that graduated from Zifa Division Three to Division One (Rutz Celtics FC).
He was also a former patron of the Dynamos Supporters Association, Bulawayo chapter.
His sister-in-law, Nomsa Chimbima, told Chronicle that Rusamo's health deteriorated on Tuesday.
"He was involved in a hit and run accident while on his way home. He was admitted to Mater Dei Hospital and later to the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) and discharged," said Chimbima.
"He was recovering well at home but unfortunately his condition deteriorated on Tuesday and caused him to be hospitalised at the Mpilo Hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU). His condition worsened until the early hours of Friday. He died at about 2am."
Chimbima described her brother-in-law as a loving man, who will be missed by many.
"He was a down to earth person who was able to associate with people from different walks of life. He will be missed for his love for his family.
"He will also be remembered for his involvement and passion for soccer," she said.
Rusamo was born in Epworth where he did his primary and secondary education.
He briefly worked as a teacher before he trained as a nurse and worked at Mpilo Hospital.
He then established his owned private pharmaceutical business, Rutz Medical Suppliers.
Chimbima said funeral arrangements were not yet finalised but indicated that Rusamo would be buried tomorrow at West Park Cemetery.
Rusamo is survived by his wife, Helen and three children, Nyasha, Tendai and Tadiwa.
Mourners are gathered at his residence, 78 Burnside Drive in Burnside, Bulawayo.
