A Bulawayo family is looking for its mentally disturbed elderly grandmother who reportedly disappeared on Tuesday.

Seventy-nine year old Saziso Sibanda reportedly went missing in Pumula South just when she returned from Mpilo Central Hospital where her family had taken her for treatment. Her son Bee Sibanda, who visited Chronicle yesterday said Sibanda sometimes turns violent.

"We had gone with her to South Africa to seek treatment but she could not get better. We then brought her home so that we could consult other specialists. She has a mental disturbance and sometimes becomes violent and speaks incoherently," said Sibanda.

Sibanda's wife, Siphiwe, who had taken her to Mpilo said she could not contain her mother-in-law's temper on Tuesday and rushed home to summon other relatives upon which the old woman disappeared.

"We went to Mpilo and when we were coming back, she became violent as we boarded a kombi. She refused to go home and we had to force her into the kombi to Pumula South," said a worried Siphiwe.

She said when they alighted from the kombi, her mother-in-law pelted stones and ran into a nearby house resulting in a near scuffle with the occupants.

"She got into a house and the occupants sent us away and she ran into another house. Sensing that I would not be able to take her home, I left her there and rushed to summon other family members but when we came back she was gone.

"We cannot say she could have visited anyone because she hardly knows any place around here since she was in Zimnyama in Plumtree all along. Wherever she is we are certain she is lost because of her condition and we appeal to anyone who could have seen her or who could see her to let us know or notify the police," Siphiwe said.

Noreen Sibanda said her grandmother was wearing a blue dress, a checked black and white jacket, and brown tennis shoes when she disappeared.

She described her grandmother as short and dark in complexion with short hair. Those who might have information about her whereabouts can contact the family at house number 22218 Pumula South or use phone numbers 077 114 8586 or South African number 083 482 0707.
