A man caused a stir at Basch Street Terminus popularly known as Egodini on Sunday after he was caught carrying a live snake and claiming to be the Biblical Moses.

Business came to a standstill at the busy commuter omnibus terminus when one of the vendors noticed the head of a snake protruding from a satchel saddled at the back of the elderly man.

The vendor then attracted the attention of other vendors who confronted the man and quizzed him why he had a live snake in his satchel.

Soon, a group gathered around the man and demanded that he hands over the snake to them, which they proceeded to kill after accusing the man of practising witchcraft.

One of the vendors operating at the terminus confirmed the incident in an interview with Radio Dialogue.

"A man was intercepted by one of the vendors, who noticed that he had a live snake in one of his bags. We then confronted the man and he told us that he was Moses from the Bible and the snake was representing the devil," said the vendor.

After killing the snake some of the vendors are said to have taunted the man to resurrect the snake since he was claiming to be the "Biblical Moses". In Exodus 4 verse 3 Moses under the instruction of God turned his staff into a snake. He repeated the same miracle in front of Pharaoh.

The man clad in clothing mostly associated with people of Arab origin, is said to have fallen into a trance soon after and broke into song and dance.

Afterwards he is said to have started preaching to the crowd gathered around him, urging them to turn away from evil and seek the face of God. Several people all over the world have claimed to be Biblical characters like Jesus Christ and even God himself.
