A Bulawayo man landed himself in jail after forging a baby clinic card and a birth certificate for a Botswana national.
Peter Dunhira, 34, appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Tawanda Muchemwa and was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment.
Dunhira will serve an effective 11 months as seven months of the sentence were conditionally suspended for five years.
The court heard that in April 2012, Abigail Marere approached Dunhira at the Registrar General's Office United Bulawayo Hospitals to help her facilitate the processing of a birth record as she intended to obtain a Zimbabwean birth certificate for her daughter.
The accused then forged the child's birth record in such a way that it seemed as if Marere delivered her daughter on October 11, 2011 at Luveve Clinic well aware that the child was born in Botswana.
It is alleged that Dunhira forged a Luveve Clinic date stamp and stamped the fake birth certificate.
Marere paid him $100 for the forged document.
The matter came to light when she went to get a passport for her daughter and it was discovered that the documents were fake.
The mater was reported to the police leading to Dunhira's arrest.
