A Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) member stationed at the ZNA Air Defence regiment in Kwekwe is in trouble after he was arrested for severely assaulting his pregnant wife who had served him sadza with vegetables instead of meat.

Francis Ndlovu, 27 who resides at Queens Park West in Bulawayo last week appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Eveline Mashavakuve facing physical abuse charges.

Ndlovu, who pleaded guilty to the charges, was remanded in custody and will return back to court for commencement of trial today.

The State alleges that on January 8 at around 12pm at the couple's home in Queens Park West suburb, the accused asked the complainant to prepare sadza for him.

The court heard the complainant then served the accused sadza and vegetables but he refused to eat arguing the vegetables were rotten and as a result he preferred meat.

The complainant stood by her decision saying there was no money to buy meat twice a day.

This did not go down well with Ndlovu who then started shouting at his wife  while asking her to leave the house but she refused.

Ndlovu went on to assault his wife several times using open hands.

The accused picked up a hoe handle which he forced between the complainant's upper part of the stomach and her breasts.

As the tusstle continued, Ndlovu dragged the complainant into the house where he further assaulted her until she managed to escape.

A police report was filed leading to Ndlovu's arrest.

The wife was then referred to hospital for check-up since she is pregnant.
