Illicit romp goes awry, hubby hacks wife to death

A Bulawayo man allegedly hacked his wife with an axe on the cheeks, arm, leg and cracked open her skull, spilling her brains, after he caught her having sex with a boyfriend.
Mandlenkosi Ncube, 34, of Robert Sinyoka appeared in court yesterday on charges of murdering his wife, Nobuhle Moyo, 28.
Moyo's boyfriend, Nhlalo Gumbo narrowly escaped with two wounds on the shoulders when Ncube stormed into their love nest in the early hours of Saturday.
Western Commonage provincial resident magistrate Maphios Willard Moyo heard how on Friday night, Gumbo took out Ncube and his wife, Moyo for a beer drink at Old Pumula Beer Garden.
While in the process of drinking, Ncube and Moyo had a misunderstanding and Gumbo intervened on Moyo's side.
Prosecuting, Tatenda Dakwa, said Moyo later sneaked out of the bar without her husband noticing her.
Gumbo, who had earlier arranged with Moyo for a romantic outing, later followed his girlfriend and the two lovebirds proceeded to Gumbo's homestead.
"Ncube later discovered that his wife and Gumbo had disappeared from the bar. He asked other patrons and they told him that the two had left together," Dakwa said.
"He became suspicious and went to his homestead and took an axe, a knife and a knobkerrie and followed them. On arrival at Gumbo's homestead, Ncube peeped through the window and saw Gumbo and Moyo sleeping under a mosquito net and having sex."
In a fit of rage, Ncube kicked the door open and stormed into the bedroom.
While inside, he struck Gumbo with an axe on the left shoulder and he managed to bolt out of the room half undressed leaving his lover at the mercy of her husband, the court heard.
Gumbo fled and hid in a neighbour's maize field.
The court heard that Ncube hacked his wife with an axe four times on the cheeks, arm and leg and head resulting in her brains spilling.
A neighbour, Musa Zulu woke up after she heard screams and she managed to wrestle away the axe from Ncube's grip before she went to report the matter to the members of the Neighbourhood Watch Committee.
"During Zulu's absence, Ncube dragged his wife to a nearby bush where he forced her to lie on thorny shrubs and continued flogging her until she lost consciousness.
When members of the Neighbourhood Watch Committee arrived at the scene, they found Ncube standing next to his wife in a pool of blood.
Neighbours and relatives loaded Moyo onto a wheelbarrow and ferried her to Robert Sinyoka Primary School and called for an ambulance.
However, when the ambulance arrived at the scene, Moyo was already dead.
Her body was taken to United Bulawayo Hospitals for a postmortem. The magistrate remanded Ncube in custody to February 17.
