RESIDENTS in Bulawayo's Waterford suburb have been ordered to vacate the area near the flooded Kabott Dam, amid concerns it might spill and flood the locality.

A fire brigade official confirmed the development saying it was true, residents were supposed to evacuate or be prepared to leave the area immediately.

He said officials from the fire and rescue emergency were on site, assessing what could be done to allay serious loss of human life.

"Officials from the Fire and rescue are on site carrying out surveillance. They are also working on lifting the gate walls." he said.

The fire brigade officials noted he was unsure of the exact threat the over-flooded dam posed as he was still waiting for more information coming from officers on the ground.

"The information will come if they are able to lift the dam gate walls, as that would determine the emergency," he said.

Another local dam, Hillside Dams has been over spilling causing fears it might flood the suburb.

Over the past weeks, rain has ben pounding Bulawayo causing lost of mayhem washing away cars, damaging durawalls and uprooting trees.
