Mkhithika Car Park in Cowdray Park has to be the country's worst overnight car park after two 18-seater kombis were stolen within four days right under the noses of security guards.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo confirmed the thefts which occurred on Wednesday and Sunday last week.
Residents said they were shocked by the development because those afraid of having their cars stolen usually leave them at overnight car parks where they believe there is more security.
Buzani Sayi, whose car was stolen from the car park on Sunday, said it was later recovered after it was abandoned in Nkulumane on Tuesday.
"I left the car at the park on Sunday at about 7 pm. Two hours later, I was phoned by the security guards who told me someone had just driven off at high speed, in my car. Luckily, we recovered it intact on Tuesday night.
Police are still searching for the kombi that was stolen on Wednesday.
Fanyana Tshuma (56) a security guard at the car park, said the thieves who stole the car on Sunday, almost knocked him down as they sped out of the premises.
"I was on patrol checking if everything was in order, when one of the cars suddenly started up. Its headlights came on and blinded me. The next moment I was diving out of the way as the car sped off," said Tshuma.
He said he did not see the first car being stolen.
