A NKULUMANE woman in Bulawayo suffered a knife attack at the hands of her boyfriend who accused her of being addicted to church and not having enough time for him.

Ruth Moyo (42) told a local daily that on Tuesday last week at around 3pm, she was preparing for church when her boyfriend Rodney Chamunorwa (30), a law student in South Africa, stormed into the bathroom and attacked her with a knife.

"He has always been against the fact that I now go to church and spend most of the time there. On Tuesday we had an argument about me going to church and because I felt that we are no longer compatible, I asked him to leave my house, but he became angry," Moyo said.

"He followed me to the bathroom where I was taking a bath and started assaulting me with the back of the knife and kicking me. I screamed for help and that is when he stabbed me in the head.

"A relative who stays with me heard my screams and asked what was going on and Chamunorwa told her I had collapsed and he was trying to resuscitate me," she said.

Moyo said her screams also attracted neighbours who came to the house, but quickly left as Chamunorwa was hostile towards them.

A relative called the police who summoned an ambulance that ferried Moyo to Mpilo Central Hospital for treatment.

One of Moyo's neighbours said Chamunorwa fled when the police arrived.

Moyo said she had been dating Chamunorwa for six years and their relationship had been abusive and she had reported him to the police several times.

She said each time she attempted to end their affair, Chamunorwa would threaten to burn down her house and kill her.
