Unconfirmed but very reliable source from Bulawayo indicate that former Bulawayo Mayor Alderman Charles Mpofu has died.
Mpofu died last night at a local hospital after succumbing to injuries sustained in car accident.
Close families members told our reporter that Mpofu had accompanied a relative on Saturday to Emganwini suburb for a traditional marriage ceremony when the car he was in was crushed by a lorry laden with sand.
Bulawayo City Council said, "His Worship the Mayor, Councillors and Bulawayo City Council Staff have learnt with great sadness of the passing away of Alderman Charles Mpofu."
The controversial Alderman Mpofu was the Deputy Mayor of Bulawayo between 2003 and 2004 after being elected as councillor in 1991.
He was recently dismissed from the Movement Democratic Change led by Professor Welshman Ncube having previously been a member of the Morgan Tsvangirai led MDC, Zapu and even Zanu-PF.
Details are still coming through and will be made available as soon as they are fully available.
