A TOTAL of 139 police officers in Bulawayo were yesterday elevated and conferred with badges. Those promoted from the rank of constable to sergeant were 49, two from sergeant to Sergeant Major, 47 from Sergeant Major to Assistant Inspector and 41 from Assistant Inspector to Inspector.
The Officer Commanding Police in Bulawayo Senior Assistant Commissioner Stephen Mutamba presided over the colourful ceremony on behalf of the Police Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri at Ross Camp.
"As officers, you need to be exemplary and unshakable in defence of the organisation and government policies. Discipline should be your daily bread as it is a collective responsibility," said Comm-Gen Chihuri in a speech read on his behalf by Snr Asst Comm Mutamba.
"The conferment of your new badges of rank is in recognition of your effort and dedication to duty that you have tirelessly shown over the years. I urge you to nurture the good that you have shown, blending it with new roles and responsibilities that the organisation is placing on your shoulders."
Among those promoted from Assistant Inspector to Inspector were Bhekimpilo Ndlovu and Precious Simango from the Press and Public Relations Office.
