A ZESA official yesterday stormed a local newspaper newsroom demanding to know the details of a Nketa prophet who claimed to have performed a miracle of paying off energy bills for his congregates.

Pastor Denis Hungwe of Tabernacle of Faith Church sent tongues wagging on Sunday with his airtime and Zesa bills miracle.

"We do not understand supernatural operations but we are concerned this will affect our business because people would consume power without any costs," said the official (name supplied) who requested to remain anonymous.

The official said the Zesa loss control department in Bulawayo was taking the matter seriously.

"We want to investigate the matter and come up with tangible evidence that this prophet is tampering with our services," said the official.

He demanded this reporter to give him residential addresses of congregants who benefited from the miracles for Zesa to inspect their meters.

"If this is true we will lose revenue because residents will have access to our electricity for free. Where will we get the money to pay our employees and other expenses that we incur in producing electricity?" queried the official.

"I am not allowed to speak to the press but certainly Zesa is like any other business and when the prophet claims to have performed such a miracle it raises alarm yet we do not get raw materials for free."

The official said consumers should not be fooled by prophets and urged them to pay their bills for Zesa to render efficient services.

He said his team will attend the church's service on Sunday to verify the authenticity of the miracle. "We need to be realistic and understand what is happening. The prophet should pray for Zesa so that no one suffers any costs as from his claims," said the official.

Zesa spokesperson Fullard Gwasira could not be reached for comment.
